Synopsis
Enter the exciting and dangerous world of International Formula 1 World Championship Racing courtesy of your Archimedes and ace programmer Gordon Key. Powerband offers you the chance to drive at up to 260 mph accelerating from 0-60 in well under 4 seconds and 0-100 in less than 8.
This Formula 1 Pseudo-Simulator pits you against a large field of Highly intelligent opponents who all have varying abilities but all really want to win. You are able to set engine power, gearbox types (manual, semi-manual or automatic), aerofoil settings etc. to try and give you the edge.
The unparalleled speed and quality of the animation and sound effects will have you totally absorbed. The engine for your car is digitised from a real 12 cylinder Formula 1 racing car. You can race on 16 real International Circuits (e.g. Silverstone, Hockenheim and Buenos Aires) which have all been meticulously recreated. Many even have additional scenery to improve the aesthetic appeal of what, in the majority of cases, are quite boring stretches of empty tarmac.
Your detailed car can be viewed from any angle and as such it is even possible to turn around and drive back down the circuit (in FUN mode). Plus oversteering at speed can cause you to skid and/or go into a very dramatic spin.
There are 4 playing modes for Powerband, you can select up to 99 laps in any race and all lap records are automatically saved to disc:
FUN mode allows you to choose from any of the 16 circuits and drive an indestructible car which will survive any kind of accident. The ability to reverse in this mode is particularly useful after you've miraculously survived a 260 mph head on crash with a grandstand!
GAME mode gives you the choice of any circuit but your car will explode in a severe crash or through accumulated damage.
TIMED mode can be manually selected with FUN or will be entered automatically before each race in order that your grid position can be determined. It's you against the clock and Pole Position is always your ultimate aim.
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP mode enters you in The Formula 1 World Championship where you will have to compete in a series of 10 races (these are selected randomly for each Championship from the 16 circuits available) to gain the valuable points needed to become The World Champion. Your car will be subject to damage or failure as in the real thing. At the end of a race your progress in any World Championship can be saved to disc and continued later.
