I'm having issues with ADFFS on the Raspberry Pi and I'm wondering if there's maybe something I'm missing or doing wrong.
With versions 2.83, 2.84 & also now 2.85 - stability overall is poor. Many games will randomly freeze or crash, or refuse to load with a black screen & system freeze. Sometimes rebooting will allow a game to work, but some may still freeze or crash at random. All the tested games were installed via PackMan.
1 game that always regularly freezes for me as a good demonstration of the problem is Lotus Turbo Challenge 2. With nothing else connected to the Pi other than keyboard & mouse (just to rule out anything externally causing it) if I load the game and just leave it running on the title screen/demo screens, after about 5 to 7 minutes it will freeze, either on one of the title screens, demo screens or a black screen. This is a hard system freeze, I have to power off the Raspberry Pi.
On 2.85 Lotus behaves a little differently - it crashes at the title/demos sceen and I'm presented with an unreadable black dialog box. Pressing Enter quits the game. The random black screen freezes when launching games is also an issue with 2.85.
However if I run ADFFS version 2.82, Lotus runs absolutely fine. I can leave that demo running for hours and hours. Overall stability is much better on 2.82 also, no hard freezes or random games refusing to load. It's only 2.83 and above that doesn't seem to be working for me.
I've tested this on a Raspberry Pi Zero 1.3 (my main Pi for Risc OS) as well as on a Pi 3 Model A+, both have the same issues. Sometimes the Pi 3 may run for a little bit longer on the Lotus 2 demo screens, before freezing.
I've set up the Pi as per the guide and I've even tried 2 different SD cards with fresh installs of Risc OS, but still having issues. The Pi is running Risc OS 5.30 and nothing else was installed prior to following the setup guide for ADFFS.
Any ideas what may be wrong?
